Letter from Principal
Welcome to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish School, where, from the moment you walk through our doors, you will witness the joy and excitement our students express at being part of such a caring and faith-filled community.
For more that 65 years, we have offered families a stable, welcoming environment reflecting a passion for Christian values and focused on fostering each child's spiritual, academic and social growth. With nearly 350 students in preschool through eighth grade, we are able to offer low student-to-teacher ratios, and a highly qualified teaching and administrative staff that continually looks for ways to partner with parents, helping to form our students into the youngsters God created them to be.
Located near the campus of Michigan State University, we welcome students and families of diverse faiths and economic and cultural backgrounds. We enroll new students at any time of the year.
We know you want the best educational and developmental experience available for your child. If you are looking for a place where your child will feel welcome and supported, and where you will find excellent academic and extra-curricular opportunities, all centered around a grateful awareness of God's love, come and visit STA!
Mission
We believe that each child is a special gift from God, an individual to love, nurture, and guide to his or her greatest potential. We believe the purpose of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish School is to assist parents with the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical and cultural development of the child within the guidelines of Catholic teachings and moral values.
We believe the school's academic program exists to provide each student with a quality education in order to develop the foundations for students to become life-long Christian learners.
Academics
Students at St. Thomas Aquinas share an excitement for learning that can be seen in our test scores and in the numerous awards and honors our alumni receive when they move on to high school and into the world.
Our academic programs include the core subjects of reading, writing, English, math, science and social studies; along with art, Spanish, music, band and technology. At graduation, our students are well-rounded and well prepared for their next academic adventure.
We mix the best of traditional values with progressive teaching methods and learning tools so our students receive the finest education possible. We also work with students of varying abilities, and our small class size allows each child to receive the special attention they need.
Faith
In addition to regular religion class, our students are encouraged to pray throughout the day, starting with our morning prayers and ending with afternoon prayers as we prepare to leave for the day. Along with weekly student-lead Mass, students are offered many opportunities to participate in reconciliation, eucharistic adoration and Christian service projects. We also offer full sacramental preparation. Our focus on faith leads us in our interactions with each other, and helps students learn to distinguish right from wrong, and to discern God’s will.
Enrichment
We offer students a wide range of extra-curricular activities that help them to develop their strengths outside of school and learn to strive for excellence in all areas of their lives.
Various activities include Jazz band, organized musicals and plays, Healthy Kids Club, Green Club, choir and more. We also offer sports such as volleyball, and basketball through the Lansing Catholic Youth Activities Conference, and partner with the Lansing Catholic Jr. Cougar program to offer baseball, cross-country, soccer and football.
