Letter from Principal
Imagine sending your child to a school where the things you value most are echoed in the classroom and the hallways – where students learn to be kind and considerate, treat people with respect, study hard and serve their community.
You will find this and more at St. Joseph School. Since our founding in 1924, we have offered families of the St. Johns community a strong tradition of Christian values, excellent education and community service. Our faith-centered learning environment and joyful atmosphere continue to attract families from all faiths and backgrounds who care deeply about their children.
In addition to an emphasis on faith and academic success, our students have many exceptional opportunities for leadership roles, public speaking and Christian service.
This formula for success means our students consistently score in the 90 percentile on standardized testing, and are often in the top 10 of graduating seniors at local high schools.
Our doors always are open with the assurance that we will work, learn and pray together, to give your child an exceptional educational experience. We look forward to having you join us and making this an even more remarkable community.
Mission
We believe that each child is a unique gift from God and that a relationship with God should be fully integrated into the life of every student. It is our purpose at St. Joseph School to assist parents in the spiritual, social and intellectual development of their child within the framework of Catholic teaching and moral values. We are committed to providing a strong academic environment that nurtures life-long learners and encourages all children to become productive, Christian citizens.
School pledge
(recited daily by the entire school)
I promise to live my life today knowing that God surrounds me and all those I meet. I will do my best to see Christ in all people and treat them with respect and dignity. I will stop myself, and others, from teasing and being hurtful. I promise to answer the call to reach out to those in need and to be a light for the kingdom.
Academics
St. Joseph is dedicated to providing a challenging academic environment using traditional and innovative programs. Our curriculum is enhanced by caring and highly qualified teachers who use traditional and innovate approaches to education, up-to-date textbooks and many hands-on learning experiences, including field trips and camps.
Our core curriculum includes religion, math, reading, writing, science and social studies. We offer music, art, physical education and computer technology for all students. Band and orchestra also are provided to 5th and 6th grade students through a partnership with the local public school.
Faith
Students at St. Joseph learn about God through regular religion class in each grade level, participation in weekly Mass, choir, eucharistic adoration, reconciliation and Christian service projects. They also participate in sacramental preparation and other faith-based activities throughout the year. Long after leaving St. Joseph, it is evident that many of our students continue to demonstrate the values they have learned here by serving our community in various ways.
Enrichment
Each year, St. Joseph works to offer more exciting opportunities to help our students learn about teamwork, hard work and fun, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Currently, we offer a Robotics Club, choir, musical opportunities, family events and sports. Students in 5th and 6th grade can participate in basketball and volleyball through the Lansing Catholic Youth Activities Conference, and many of our students participate in sports and clubs through partnerships with our local school district.
If you are interested in sending your child to St. Joseph but are concerned about the cost, please talk to us. Scholarships, family discounts, tuition payment plans and other options are available to make it possible.
